Service
Advance the methods behind better building decisions.
Frontier brings structured experimentation, domain knowledge and responsible validation to emerging questions in building assessment, evidence, automation, lifecycle planning and professional review.
Research mandate
Test questions and methods, not sales claims.
Orbis conducts applied research because better building decisions depend on better methods. Frontier is not a way to retrofit marketing claims with academic language; it is a controlled process for investigating questions that are genuinely unresolved.
Why we do it
Building assessment involves incomplete evidence, long time horizons and many decision makers. Without structured research, teams rely on habit or vendor claims. Frontier asks what method actually works under stated conditions.
What makes it different from product marketing
Product marketing starts with a claim and looks for supporting evidence. Frontier starts with a question, designs a test, records negative or inconclusive results, and only transfers validated methods into product through formal governance.
Research initiatives
Published only when the evidence supports it.
Approved research initiatives, findings and publications will be published here when evidence is complete and publication permissions are in place.
Research lifecycle
Six stages from question to responsible transfer.
Each stage is documented, reviewed and bounded before the next begins.
- 01Frame the Question
State what is unknown, why it matters for professional practice and what would change if a reliable answer existed.
- 02Define Data and Ethical Boundaries
Confirm what data may be used, how it will be protected, what consent applies and where the line sits between research and operational client work.
- 03Design the Method
Choose an approach that can be reproduced, documented and challenged, with predefined success criteria and known limitations.
- 04Test and Document
Run controlled experiments, capture results, record deviations and preserve enough detail for another reviewer to follow the reasoning.
- 05Review Limitations
State what the experiment does and does not show, where uncertainty remains and what conditions would be needed to generalize any finding.
- 06Publish or Transfer Through Product Governance
Share findings through appropriate channels or move validated methods into Lumetra's product-governance process — never by bypassing review.
Collaboration
General models, confirmed case by case.
Frontier can engage through sponsored investigations, joint method reviews, data-sharing agreements or advisory arrangements. Specific scope, data use, intellectual property and publication rights are confirmed for each engagement.
Research, prototype and product are not the same
Research produces knowledge under stated limitations. Experimental prototypes demonstrate feasibility but are not supported product features. Available Lumetra functionality is what has passed product governance and is documented for operational use.
